Boy Scout Jamboree Project - 2013

Members of the NWV ACS joined 40,000 other visitors to the 2103 Boy Scout Jamboree, held for the first time at the new Summit-Bechtel Preserve in southern West Virginia. The goal was to support and visit the Chemistry Merit Badge Booth and learn how to deliver interactive, hands-on chemistry activities in outdoor settings.  Over 2000 scouts and leaders visited the booth between July 15 and 24, and 350 completed the on-site requirements for the chemistry merit badge. The project was supported by a Local Section Innovative Project Grant from ACS.  Eight people attended through the Section's support, including 2 family members, 2 students and 3 chemists who had not previously participated in Section activities.
